{Ed002's note - The English sides are at a disadvantage in the chase for Hoilett now as he is in to the last six months of his contract and he can talk to interested parties from outside of England. Blackburn will offer him a new deal but I doubt he will be interested, in the same way as a move to Bolton, Aston Villa or Stoke is unlikely. If pushed, I would say North London or foreign shores are the most likely destinations - and I do expect him to leave this summer.}

That is the belief on Ed002 and I support this fully. The most likely clubs seem to be Spurs and Schalke, with perhaps Arsenal and Roma just behind them. He is one of the most talked about players this year and also received the most interest from clubs from all around Europe.

Estimated Market Value: - As Hoillett's contract expires at the end of the season with current club Blackburn, he would be available on a 'free'. However, Ed003 has informed me that this isn't the case. Due to Hoilett's age, a club wishing to purchase him would have to pay a fee decided at a tribunal. Once this fee has been agreed, the club wishing to purchase him would have to pay that fee to the previous club (in this case Blackburn). In addition, it's important to remember that player's still demand a 'signing on fee' which is X amount of money for the player to sign for your club, and also agent fee's.

Club career

Blackburn Rovers:

At a very young age Hoilett moved over from Canada to England and soon joined the Blackburn academy at the age of 13. However, Hoilett was initially unable to obtain a work permit whilst in England, which resulted in Blackburn loaning him out to German club Paderborn to help the player earn one in the future and develop as a player after 4 years with Blackburns academy and youth setup. He was loaned out at this age because work permits usually come into requirement at the age of 18 just to clarify for you.

SC Paderborn 07:

3rd February 2008 - Hoilett made his debut for Paderborn against Kickers Offenbach, after coming off of the bench as a substitute for the German side in a 3-2 victory at home.

9th March 2008 - Hoilett made his first match in the starting eleven was against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

18th May 2008 - Hoilett scored his first and only goal of his (loan) campaign against Borussia Monchengladbach in his final game for the club before 'returning' to Blackburn.

Paderborn finished the season poorly though, and were later relegated, ending the 2007/2008 2. Fussball-Bundesliga season in 17th position.

St. Pauli:

After returning to Blackburn at the end of the 2007/2008 season, Hoilett was immediately loaned out again to another German club in the 2. Fussball-Bundesliga, FC St. Pauli for the 2008/2009 season.

22nd August 2008 - Hoilett made his debut for St. Pauli against Greuther Furth.

During this loan spell, Hoilett scored six times during the (loan) campaign with braces against Alemannia Aachen and Hansa Rostock as well as individual goals against TSV 1860 Munchen and 1. FC Kaiserslautern, where he was recognised for his pace and confidence to try different things and to take on other players with ease. (All at the age of 18).

3rd May 2009 - Hoilett's final game would come in the 1-0 loss to Rot Weiss Ahlen, and St. Pauli eventually finished the season in 8th position (mid-table).

Blackburn Rovers:

January 2009 - Hoilett's home club Blackburn Rovers applied for Hoilett to be granted a work permit for him to play Premier League Football in England.

In the Summer of 2009, Hoilett was finally granted a work permit on appeal, allowing him to continue his much anticipated career in England at Premier League club Blackburn.

Hoilett scored his first and second goals for Blackburn since his full-time return to the club in only his third game, a pre-season friendly against non-League club Leigh Genesis, where he also earned Rovers a penalty in that game.

25 August 2009 - His first competitive goal for Rovers came in a 3-1 League Cup win against Gillingham.

2nd December 2009 - Hoilett played an instrumental role in Blackburn's dramatic League Cup win against Chelsea, coming on as a second half substitute as he won an extra-time penalty which was then converted to put Rovers 3-2 up before Paulo Ferreira equalised in the 122nd minute. However, Hoilett then converted the crucial fifth (and winning) penalty to help Rovers to the 4-3 shootout win and a place in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup.

25th February 2010 - With Hoilett's contract due to expire in June 2010, Hoilett ended media speculation regarding his future at the club by signing a new two-and-a-half year deal with Blackburn keeping him at the club until the summer of 2012.

9th May 2010 - Hoilett scored a header in a win over Aston Villa at Villa Park on the final day of the season, but after the match it was then confirmed as a Richard Dunne own-goal.

21st August 2010 - Hoilett made his first Premier League appearance of the 2010/2011 season by coming on as a substitute in the 84th minute in a 2-1 defeat at St Andrew's against Birmingham City.

October 2010 - Hoilett scored his first goal of the 2010/2011 season in the 1-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers in the FA Cup third Round.

23 January 2011 - Hoilett finally scored his first Premier League goal in a 2-0 home victory against West Bromwich Albion at Ewood Park, in the 47th minute from a Nikola Kalinic assist.

5th March 2011 - Hoilett scored his third goal of the season in a 3-2 defeat against Fulham (away) at Craven Cottage. His next goal came in the following game, a last gasp equaliser coming from a header against Blackpool at Ewood Park in a 2-2 draw.

9th April 2011 - Hoilett scored in the 1-1 draw versus Birmingham City at Ewood Park on half-time, but he unfortunately he suffered an injury during the game and was out of action for around one month.

Hoilett then marked his return to action by scoring his fifth league goal of the season with an individual goal in a 3-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on the last day of the season.

Hoilett scored a controversial goal in a match as Blackburn drew with Wigan Athletic 3-3 after his team-mate Morten Gamst Pedersen seemed to dribble the ball straight from a corner before firing in a low cross for Hoilett to head home from two yards.

January 2012 - Hoilett was named one of the 13 Players to watch in 2012 by world football governing body FIFA.

General Comments:

My views on Hoilett are very different to most peoples, as I really don't know what to make of him as a player. I've seen him be the key man for Blackburn during some games, and non-existent in others. I think he's severely inconsistent and can only show flashes of brilliance. In my opinion, any player can show glimpses of greatness, but it takes a truly great player to show it regularly. He's not much of a goal scorer as his goals per game ratio is pretty poor, and his assist rate is about average. I can't understand why there's so much hype regarding him so soon, as for now he really hasn't done anything special. He does have potential, yes, but the only way he'll achieve that potential is by improving his consistency and not disappearing in key games, which he does regularly. It's almost like he decides which games he'll play well in and which games he wont, which to me in unacceptable from any player. I think he knows he's good and has too much arrogance for a boy his age and for a boy who hasn't really backed up his potential, and I think he needs to work on a few things before he is eligible to receive so much hype, because to me it's all unsubstantiated and MOTD fever-ish. There is no denying this kid has some level of talent, but until that talent is managed correctly, he'll never be a top player of which he is predicted to be. I think people need to remember the saying of 'form is temporary, class is permanent' works both ways, as just because a player displays some good level of form throughout patches of the season, does not make him a class player, he needs to back it up week in, week out, which I think he's failing to do. If he gave 100% every game, I'd have a lot more respect and a different opinion on Hoilett, but the trouble is, he doesn't.

Thanks all,
