The 22 year old is one of the hottest properties in football right now, despite struggling to hold down a place in the Real Madrid side. It must be said, he is very unlucky to have such quality blocking his way into the side, because there are very few teams in the world that he would not walk into. Currently Asensio is mainly used on the left, but he is expected by most to end up as a central player who uses his pace and skill to cause havoc.

Right now he is a pacey, skilful and strong player who likes to run with the ball and has a lovely left foot. Unusually for a left footer he also has a good right foot too. It is far from a swinger. Asensio has the twists, turns and pirouettes of the likes of Dybala, but has the power and pace that allow him to play anywhere and cause trouble for any defender.

What separates him from many others, and there are many with pace, skill, strength and a nice range of passing, is the effect he has on games. He makes a difference. He can turn a game because he has an end product to his play that very few players develop until their mid-20s. What he lacks is regular game time, which is something that is almost certain to see him move on from Madrid this summer.

Whoever does end up winning the battle to sign him will pay a huge fee and get a player who could potentially be a world class player in just a couple of years. He is perched on a precipice right now. Asensio's career could go into the stratosphere or it could all collapse and see him become a case of 'what might have been'. He needs to choose the right club to develop him as a player or end up as another of those Football Manager Wunderkinds who fail to live up to their potential.
