Inzaghi impressed at Lazio enough for reigning champions Inter to decide on him as the replacement for Antonio Conte. Though it was helped by the less confrontional attitude he adopts with the board, as Simeone is used to having to make do and mend with the players he is given, while Conte was much more demanding and expectant in terms of transfers.

Like Conte he favours a 3-5-2 tactical system, which probably went some way towards making him the preferred option of the board. Inzaghi is a much less fractious personality than Conte, someone who will not demand of the players as much as try to draw a performance out of them.

While in charge of Lazio, Inzaghi never really tried to impose a single way of playing against every team. He was always flexible in the way he approached the game, varying the defensive line between a high press and a mid-block, depending on the opposition.

Whether that is just what he did because of the players at his disposal, which were of a lesser quality than Inzaghi should have to work with at Inter, or if that is his philosophy, only time will tell. With his lack of experience to look at, it is hard to tell how his tactics will evolve, if they do.

All in all, it does make him an odd choice to deal with a team that has just won Serie A and likely to be full of big egos, some of whom will no doubt feel that they have made it. It is certainly not going to be an easy task for a young manager, still learning the game, to step in to the shoes of an extremely dictatorial manager.

While initially you would expect the players to enjoy the less restrictive management style and respond to it, the problems will come later when they start to try and take advantage of the more relaxed regime. How he deals with that will make and break his time with Inter.
