Luka Jovic was once the up and coming young star with a bright future, but then he made the move to Real Madrid and his star immediately waned. Jovic still has a very clinical finish on him and his workrate is good, particularly when pressing the ball.

However his game is suffering from a lack of movement when the ball goes out wide, he is failing to offer himself for a cross and not doing enough to prepare for a cross. That could in large part be due to it usually being Vinicius Jr on the ball out wide and his tendency to hang on to the ball far too long before playing it in.

Jovic is quick, but not lightning fast, and so needs to be on the move ahead of the cross coming in to make sure he beats the defender to it. That is not happening, as he is not anticipating the ball in but waiting for it to be played and then reacting.

That is costing him and stopping him reaching his potential as Jovic's overall play is good. His technique is very good, his strength and shielding of the ball is good too but he does lack skill to run with the ball and get past defenders.

The potential is there, but he needs to be paired with wide players who get the ball in early to make the most of Jovic's finishing skills. The technique is good enough to deal with anything put in, no matter how difficult a ball it is. That may require him making a move from Madrid to a team that plays to his strengths.
