A hard working forward, though he has shown the versatility to play in midfield, Minamino is very suited to the pressing system that the Red Bull franchise favoured and that Liverpool use under Jurgen Klopp. He is quick, fairly skilful, willing to track back and is always a goal threat in the box.



He does lack height, which ruins his usefulness in the air and his touch can be inconsistent, sometimes excellent but sometimes poor. A lot of his inconsistency is probably a result of his lack of first team football in recent months, as Minamino has struggled to break into the Liverpool team.



A very shy character, he does not seem to impose himself on the team in the way other players do, which seems to count against him. Klopp tends to prefer more obviously strong characters, those who are more outgoing and does not seem to trust the more introverted player to step up when needed.



From watching Minamino's time at Salzburg, especially comparing him to his teammates from there who have since moved on as well, he stood out as their best player in most games and it feels like Klopp is making a mistake by not making more use of him. While he is not a shouter or much of a talker, he is one of those players who just knuckles down and gets on with it.



When things are not going right, he just keeps going and does not look to let it affect him. With his ability to play a number of roles in the side it should be easy to find a place for him but Minamino has yet to force his way in, even with a number of forwards and midfielders in the Liverpool team out of form.
