Despite being 34, Adrian lacks in experience compared to most goalkeepers his age, in terms of professional football. He was a late starter with Betis and it can show in his game, as he can become flustered under pressure and make the odd mistake.

Overall though, the Spaniard is quick across the ground, good with his feet and very happy to come out and sweep up behind a high line. His positional sense is not perfect, but he is still very agile and able to get to shots using his speed across the ground.

He is probably the ideal third choice keeper, as he can be brilliant for short periods but then seems to lose his way when asked to play for longer periods. On his day, Adrian is an excellent shotstopper with good distribution, which, added to his speed across the ground, should make him ideal for a team like Liverpool and their high defensive line.

Unfortunately, his lack of experience at the top level leads him to second guess himself and he can drop a little too deep to sweep effectively or dither about coming out and miss the chance. That is why he has dropped behind Kelleher in the Liverpool pecking order, as the young Irish keeper is so much more decisive.
