Brooks looks like a youth teamer who has yet to fill out, but he usually plays like a much more experienced player. Defensively he is of little use, nothing more than a body to fill gaps in the defence, he does not have bad positional sense but he is not much of a tackler. At least he does not skimp on effort getting back, most of the time.

While he often plays on the right wing, he is not a flying winger by any means, pace is not an asset he possesses, though he is not a slouch by any means. While he has an excellent touch and lovely technique, he is not a dribbler either, though capable of beating a man, he does not have that top level skill on the ball to race through packed defences.

I would call him a touch player, in that he likes to have the ball and needs lots of touches of the ball to be effective. While he does have good movement off the ball, Brooks is at his best when he has the ball and is a very creative player, someone who will look to launch moves, link up play and get on the end of moves.

On the ball, despite his age, Brooks is a composed finisher and has the ability to place the ball, rather than just smash it and hope for the best. He does have a tendency to go down far too easily, trying to use his slight frame to kid referees that he is being pushed over or otherwise fouled, when he is actually stronger than he looks and is usually under little pressure but looking for an easy way out.

A quality young player with huge potential, Brooks could be a huge star in the future, but he does need to improve his work in helping the team out defensively, something that he will not be learning under Eddie Howe. If he is to reach his undoubted potential, he will need to move to work with a coach who works on all aspects of his game.
